Maroon consulting, in collaboration with ASCO to support the Badan Restorasi Gambut (BRG), were participating in Study and development of Business Plan for rural business area in Bengkalis, namely Business Plan for Bengkalis Rural Business Zone, in 2020. Bengkalis is an island in the Riau Province that consists of 19 villages covering areas of 32,700 ha. The biophysical and social issues in Bengkalis is almost similar to the issues in Pulang Pisau Peat Hydrological Unit (PHU) in Central Kalimantan, where economic activities of both areas depend on peatland which is ecologically sensitive.

The purpose of the activity was to provide a business strategy and recommendation to develop peatland-based businesses, as a way to harmonize economic production of rural areas and peatland ecosystem sustainability.
