Development of Pulang Pisau Rural Business Zone-Central Kalimantan

A discussion on economic production and conservation in natural resource management, especially in peat ecosystem areas, has been going on for quite some time and there has not yet been one effective recipe that can successfully address the issue.

Maroon Consulting considers that stakeholder participation in production economy plays very important role in bringing the sustainability production program to succeed in rural development that harmonizing production and conservation.

Studies conducted by Maroon Consulting in the Peat Hydrological Unit (PHU or Ind. (KHG)) landscape Pulang Pisau district have shown that stakeholder participation in the form of ownership of rural business institutions (Cooperatives, Bumdes) can be a trigger in harmonization between production interests, economic efficiency, and conservation in the landscape. The rural business institutions, however, must be designed to facilitate improvement of community welfare in the villages but at the same time to be able to mobilize rural communities to implement all agricultural, forestry, and fishery production activities within the framework of sustainable management.
