Since the beginning of 2023, MaroonConsulting has been working as the implementing partner for the IMPACT (Indika Energy Mangrove Program in Action: https://impact.co.id/) initiative, launched by PT Indika Energy to rehabilitate a 250-hectare mangrove ecosystem in Tanah Grogot, East Kalimantan. This activity aims to restore the degraded mangrove ecosystem in the area, which has caused several negative impacts on local ecosystem and livelihood.

The rehabilitation activity covers seven (7) villages in the APL (Other Use Area - Non-Forest Area) region, spread across 5 sub-districts (Long Ikis, Blengkong, Tanjung Harapan, and Tanah Grogot). These villages are Lori, Tajur, Bai Jaya, Langai, Riwang, Laburan, and Seniung Jaya.

The rehabilitation approach involves the local communities through the formation of Masyarakat Peduli Mangrove. These groups include: the Mangrove Lestari Group in Lori Village (consisting of 14 members), the Apar Jaya Group in Bai Jaya Village (with 11 members), the Bumiku Hijau Group (with 10 members in Tajur), and the Harapan Maju Group (with 10 members) in Seniung Jaya Village.
The initial formation process is carried out through several stages, including:
- Presentation of the activity plan to the community and gathering their aspirations and input regarding the mangrove ecosystem rehabilitation activities plan.
- Group formation and appointment of group leaders by the group members.
- Capacity-building activities for the groups, both in terms of community administrative organization, and in the technical aspects of rehabilitation.
In addition, various discussions in multi-stakeholder forums are held with the aim of socializing the activities to different layers of society, particularly to gain support from the government and the broader community, such as the BRGM, district government, sub-district government, village government, and Mulawarman University.
